A Typical Day

Camp Galil's daily schedule is packed with just enough time for meals, education, sports, and community/group activities while still providing enough free time during the day for rest. However, on Shabbat there is an adjusted schedule: Fridays are an adjusted Yom Ragil (Regular Day) that includes Kabbalat Shabbat, a special Shabbat dinner, an Oneg (a special camper run skit), and Rikud (Israeli dancing) while Saturdays are a special relaxed day that includes optional Tfilot (prayers), educational discussions, Musicale (a camper run musical talent show), Havdallah, and Medurah (a campfire and comedy skit show). In addition to their normal week there are plenty of special days and Out-of-Camp trips that make every week at Camp Galil a memorable one.

Yom Ragil (Regular Day):

Hashkama (wake-up) - Campers wake each morning to music that is broadcast in cabins over the camp loudspeaker system. Counselors living in their cabins assist campers, as needed, in getting ready to greet a new day.

Hitkansut Boker - Gathering at the flagpole to raise the American and Israeli flags is the first all-camp event of the day. Ivrit Shimushit – a chance to learn today’s Hebrew word-of-the-day is a special part of of this time.

Aruchat Boker (breakfast)

Avoda (work) - A strong connection between the camp and campers is developed during our morning work session. Each camper chooses a work project at the beginning of each session of camp such as gardening, animal care, woodworking, painting, and cleaning and each camper works within a work team throughout the session.

Nikayon Tsrif - (cabin cleaning time) Each day the campers return to their cabins to clean before starting the rest of the day.

Peulat Shichvah aleph - (age group activity) An activity run every regular day exclusively within age groups. The time is used either for fun educational activities that promote our summer curriculum and theme, or for games and activities that promote group building and community.

schiya limudit - (instructional swim) Instructional Swim is done on a rotational basis so each age group has the pool all to themselves during a given period.

Zman Sport - (Sports) - A block of time every day is set aside for campers to choose from one of many sports offered. Campers choose these sports on a weekly basis. Sports vary, but often include Soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, basketball, swimming, running, volleyball, football and others.

Rachatzah - (washing)  time is set aside for campers to clean up after sports before lunch

Aruchat Tzohoriyim - (lunch)

Menucha - (rest time) Campers relax in their bunks and take time to write and read their mail.

Peulat Shichvah Bet - This is the second age group activity run by tzevet each day.

Schiya Chofshit - (free swim) this is a chance for the entire camp community to swim in our beautiful heated pool.

Kibud - (snack time)

Sadna’ot - (workshops) This is an opportuntity for our campers to spend significant time around a specific topic. Topics covered may include Ivrit, nature, challenge course, arts and crafts, Israeli dancing.

Chugim - (interest groups/clubs) Campers choose interest groups at the beginning of the session and participate in them every regular day. Chugim vary each year based on counselor expertise, and generally range from soapstone carving, Frisbee, t arts and crafts, music appreciation, and yoga.

Shira/Hitkansut Erev - ( Singing/evening flag lowering)    We transition to evening programming by gathering around the flagpole once again to lower our flags. During Shira we teach camp songs in Hebrew and English. Campers who already know songs help to teach, and new campers quickly get accustomed to our musical culture.

Aruchat Erev (dinner)

Chofesh (free time)

Tochnit Erev - (evening activity) A one-to-two hour activity closes the day. This activity is either with the whole camp or by age group. Every evening is different, and can include anything from a camp-wide game of Capture the Flag or themed party, to a quiet, reflective small group activity.
