ABOUT OUR PROFESSIONAL STAFF

Year Round
Executive Director - Sharon Waimberg

Sharon Waimberg, our Executive Director, is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Camp Galil. Before joining Camp Galil, Sharon worked for the Auerbach Central Agency for Jewish Education as the Director of the Philadelphia Passport to Israel program.

Her love of Israel began with a high school trip there with two friends who happened to go to Camp Galil, and then was intensified at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem where she studied for her junior year of college. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, Sharon worked and lived in Jerusalem.

Sharon's first personal contact with Camp Galil was as a parent. She made the transition from Galil parent to year-round Galil professional in June of 2000. From September through June of each year, she keeps Galil moving forward, and in the summer Sharon's duties expand to include support for the educational staff and management of the technical staff.

“As a Galil parent I have seen first-hand the personal growth, close friendships and pure fun that a Galil summer brings to campers. As a Galil staff member, I have experienced the high-level of dedication, leadership and education that Galil counselors bring to their campers each summer. I’m so privileged to work with these bright, caring and energetic young adults each year.”

Associate Director - Bart Davis

Bart Davis, our Associate Director, has been working for Camp Galil for the past eleven years. He recently retired from the Philadelphia School System after a 36 year teaching career. As our Parent Liaison, Bart is the primary parent contact at camp. He is the connection between parents, camp staff and campers. In this role he works with parents and counselors to ensure a successful camp experience.

Another of Bart's roles is to work with the Rosh Machaneh (Camp Director) and the leadership team to ensure a safe and healthy environment each summer. He consults with staff in areas of child development and conflict resolution, and is available to them for guidance in situations that may arise in or out of camp.

"I had never heard about Galil before the fall of 1994. I was asked by a former Camp Business Manager (a colleague at work) to consider the job of Associate Director. I told her that, I don't do camp." She was a good salesperson and I started at Galil in the summer of 1995. I have been here ever since. It's hard to explain how amazing it really is to watch young people grow up, learn and accept responsibility, and eventually become leaders in this camp. For me, it has been an incredibly rewarding experience."

Registrar – Abbey Krain Sasson

Abbey joined Galil's staff in 2006.  She has a passion for Jewish communal service and knows first hand the amazing impact of Jewish summer overnight camp!

Abbey loves talking about Galil to prospective campers and their families and being a part of registration for new and returning families.  Abbey has a B.A. in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies from Brandeis University and an M.S.W. from Washington University in St. Louis, MO.

"The great sense of community you feel at Camp during the summer is one which follows you throughout the year.  Galil is truly the  -Spirit of Kibbutz Close to Home-! "

Shlicha (Israel Emissary) – Adi Inbar

Adi Inbar was born and raised in Israel, growing up in Emek-Hefer, the rural area between Natanyah and Hadera. Adi was a member of the B'nei HaMoshavim Youth Movement (part of Hanoar Ha'oved V'Halomed, Habonim-Dror's sister movement in Israel) since 4th grade, and has many years of youth movement leadership and coordination experience. Adi served in the IDF as a tour guide, and has worked for the Jewish Agency for Israel for over a decade. This is Adi’s 3rd shlichut, including a summer camp shlichut to the US and a one-year volunteer shlichut to Habonim-Dror UK located in Manchester. She holds a degree from the Ben-Gurion University in Behavioral Sciences (Psychology, Anthropology & Socioology) and an MA from the University of Haifa in Sociology. Adi currently lives in Center City Philadelphia, and also serves as the Youth Shlicha for the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia.

SUMMER STAFF

Summer Camp Director – Jacki Silbermann

Jacki Silbermann has grown up at Machaneh Galil - arriving for her first summer when she was nine years old, in younger Amelim.  She's come back every summer since, and is now very active in the national movement, working as a madricha (counselor) both during the summer and throughout the year.  She currently lives in Boston, where she is finishing up her final year of university.  She loves playing ultimate frisbee, discussing the Middle East and Harry Potter (sometimes together), and cooking.

Jacki is really excited for summer 2008, and can't wait to see everyone back at Galil!
